A shocking cyber scam has surfaced from Hingoli district in Maharashtra, where a government employee lost a whopping ₹2 lakh all because of a fake wedding card received on WhatsApp.
The victim revealed that he received a wedding invitation from an unknown number. Along with the message, there was a file attachment showing the wedding date as 30th August. Thinking it was just a card, he opened it. But instead of wedding bells, trouble began.
The file was actually an APK (Android application package). Once opened, it silently installed malware on his phone. This malicious software bypassed his phone’s security, giving cybercriminals access to his sensitive data, including bank details. Within minutes, ₹2 lakh vanished from his account.
After realizing the fraud, the man immediately approached the Hingoli police and cyber cell. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway.
Police have once again reminded people to be cautious. Scammers are using clever tricks — from fake wedding invites to job offers and fake official notices — to lure victims. Even one careless click can drain your hard-earned money.
Safety Tip: Never download unknown files or click on suspicious links on WhatsApp or SMS without verifying the sender.
