iPhone 18 Launch in 2026 Likely Cancelled: Apple May Focus on Foldable iPhone Instead

Apple May Focus on Foldable iPhone

Apple is reportedly planning a major shift in its iPhone lineup strategy for 2026, and it could mean that the iPhone 18 may never see the light of day in its traditional form. A report from South Korea suggests that Apple will skip the standard iPhone 18 model next year to make room for its first-ever foldable iPhone, which has been long-rumored but never confirmed until now.

What Happens to iPhone 18?

The iPhone 18 series has been expected to carry forward Apple’s legacy of premium flagships, with the iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max (or Ultra) set to headline the lineup. However, reports suggest that the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e models will be pushed back to early 2027, likely to Apple’s Spring launch event.

Apple May Focus on Foldable iPhone

This doesn’t mean Apple is killing the iPhone 18 altogether. Instead, the company seems to be strategically delaying certain models to create space for the foldable iPhone, which is expected to be the highlight of 2026.

Why the Change?

Apple has been known for sticking to a steady release schedule, but with slowing demand for iPhones in the first quarter of the year, the company may be looking for ways to boost sales. Launching a brand-new product category like a foldable device could spark renewed interest and strengthen Apple’s position in the premium smartphone market.

By shifting the timeline of some iPhone 18 models, Apple ensures that its production capacity can handle the new foldable device without disruptions. This move could also allow the company to test market response before rolling out the complete iPhone 18 range in 2027.

The Foldable Bet

Apple’s first foldable iPhone will reportedly rely on Samsung’s foldable display technology, according to Bloomberg. This suggests the upcoming iPhone Fold could have design similarities with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

The price, however, is expected to push boundaries. Industry reports hint that Apple’s foldable could cost over $2,000 (around ₹1,72,500 in India), placing it firmly in the ultra-premium segment. While this will limit its initial audience, it gives Apple a strong entry point in the fast-growing foldable market.

What It Means for Buyers

For iPhone fans, the wait for the standard iPhone 18 might be longer than expected, but the arrival of the foldable iPhone in 2026 could be worth the delay. Apple seems determined to make 2026 a landmark year by reshaping its lineup and entering a brand-new category of devices.
