Ather Launches Battery-as-a-Service Model for Rizta and 450 E-Scooters – Prices & Key Benefits

Ather Launches Battery-as-a-Service for Rizta

Ather Energy, the Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer, has rolled out a new ownership model aimed at tackling three of the biggest concerns for EV buyers in India—high upfront cost, uncertain resale value, and long-term maintenance. The company has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription, along with an Assured Buyback programme and an Extended Comprehensive Warranty. These steps are expected to make Ather’s popular scooters like the Rizta and the 450 Series more attractive to customers.

Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) Explained

Under the new BaaS model, customers can now purchase the scooter separately from the battery. This means the Ather Rizta can be bought starting at just ₹75,999, while the 450 Series starts at ₹84,341 (both ex-showroom). The battery is then subscribed to through monthly plans.

The subscription starts at ₹1 per kilometre on a 48-month package, with a minimum monthly usage commitment of 1,000 km. Essentially, customers only pay for the battery usage, which lowers the initial cost of owning an Ather scooter.

To make the deal sweeter, Ather is also offering one year of free access to its fast-charging network for all BaaS subscribers, giving owners added convenience and savings.

Strengthened Buyback Programme

Ather is also expanding its Assured Buyback programme. Earlier available on limited terms, this scheme now covers all buyers. Customers are guaranteed up to 60% of the scooter’s value after three years and 50% after four years, depending on usage. This initiative addresses one of the key concerns around EVs—their resale value.

Extended Comprehensive Warranty

The third major update is the Extended Comprehensive Warranty package. This goes beyond just battery protection and covers 11 other critical components, including the motor, motor controller, charger, and dashboard. The coverage lasts for up to five years or 60,000 km, ensuring long-term peace of mind for owners.

Final Word

With these new ownership plans, Ather Energy is addressing affordability and durability concerns in India’s EV market. The BaaS subscription model drastically reduces the upfront price of scooters, the buyback programme ensures resale security, and the extended warranty strengthens confidence in the product’s reliability.

For customers on the fence about switching to an electric scooter, Ather’s latest offerings make the Rizta and 450 Series far more compelling options in 2025.
